Reusable cosmetic swabs are now available in almost every drugstore. Although they cost more than disposable ones, many people choose to buy them. What are reusable cotton pads made of? How to take care of them? Can they be used with acne?
Reusable cotton swabs have been known for a long time, but are still not as popular as disposable swabs. Meanwhile, using them has almost the same advantages: it allows you to save money, space in the bathroom, and reduce the amount of waste generated. The rough estimates show that 5 reusable cosmetic pads are the equivalent of 400 to as many as 720 ordinary cotton swabs - this is roughly how much we use them in a year.
Reusable cotton pads can be used for the same purposes as regular pads. They are most often used to remove makeup, although they can also be used to apply and remove masks, apply greasy ointments or wash the auricles. What are they made of? Are they hygienic and how to care for them?
Reusable make-up removal pads - what are they made of?
Reusable cotton swabs are usually made of two types of material - most often cotton (regular or organic), polyester or a mixture of polyester and polyamide.
On the one hand, they are smooth, on the other hand, slightly rough, which gives a slight exfoliating effect when used, but also has another advantage: such a cotton pad is more effective at collecting dirt.
How to use reusable cotton pads?
Reusable make-up removal pads are used almost in the same way as standard ones. "Almost" because there are minor differences. Some of the swabs can only be used with water, others - also with your favorite makeup remover.
That is why it is worth reading the instructions in advance, which should be attached to the product or on the manufacturer's website. Cotton swabs with two different materials are used first with the rough side, collecting most of the dirt, and then with the smooth side, thoroughly cleaning the skin.
How to take care of reusable cotton pads?
One reusable swab should last for three months - most manufacturers recommend replacing it with a new one after such a period of use. In practice, however, many people use them for much longer. In order for them to serve well, they must be properly looked after. It is worth knowing that before the first use, the pads must be washed by hand in soapy water and dried. They also need to be washed thoroughly after each use (in practice, it is also enough to apply a drop of liquid soap and rinse under a stream of tap water).
From time to time - e.g. every week - it is also worth washing the flakes in the washing machine, adding them in a bag to regular washing. If it was not included, you can use e.g. a linen washing bag.
Reusable cotton pads and acne
Can you use reusable makeup remover pads if you have acne, especially in the acute stage? You can - then, however, it is worth very scrupulous hygiene due to the possibility of secondary superinfections with bacteria from purulent acne eruptions.
The swabs should be washed in the washing machine after each use - in practice, many people keep used and rinsed swabs in a cosmetic bag, washing them when a certain amount is collected. In this case, a set of 5 swabs (and most companies sell them in this amount) may not be enough and it is worth getting a second set.
