How to Choose Fragrance for Yourself

Everyone who knows aromatherapy knows how strong the power of fragrance is. Properly selected perfumes can work wonders. They stimulate the senses, put in a good mood, give energy or calm down.

Aromatherapy specialists have long been using fragrances to heal the body and soul. Although we do not yet know the mechanism of action of essential oils, we are happy to reach for cosmetics and perfumes containing them. They are certainly a more pleasant remedy to improve your mood than a visit to a therapist or swallowing pills.

We use this fragrant "medicine" most often and in the form of perfumes. The more eager that we have a lot of choices. Once it was thought that a woman was to be faithful to one fragrance. Now we can change perfumes like ... gloves. Others "wear" to the little black dress, others to jeans. Some emphasize our character, with the help of others we hide the true "I", becoming a sensually fragrant temptress, a sweet girl wrapped in the scent of flowers or an energetic woman surrounded by the scent of citrus and herbs.

Perfumes develop over time

Creators of fragrances have a choice of over 30,000 ingredients of plant, animal and synthetic origin. Selected ingredients are composed into three fragrance layers, so-called notes. The first to appear is the head note, which contains the most intense but the most volatile fragrances. After a few minutes, the heart note gives way to softer chords. The richest, most complex part of the composition is the base note. Appears at the very end, but lasts even for 6-8 hours. Therefore, when choosing a perfume, you should not be guided by the first impression.

Perfume selection strategy

When looking for perfumes, do not pay attention to ads and how beautiful your friend smells. The natural aroma of the skin depends on its pH, hormonal changes in the body and diet. That is why the same perfumes smell different on each person. It is also pointless to smell the cork of a bottle or a strip of paper displayed in a perfumery. Try the fragrance by spraying on your wrists or in the bends of your elbows. You can also perfume the handkerchief and put it on for a few hours for a bra. This is how you will check the "base" note combined with the smell of your skin. Remember that the nose can distinguish only three or four smells. Wait for the next day to test the next ones. Do not buy perfume when you are tired, runny or taking antibiotics. The sweat smell changes then and the perfume smells different than usual.

Remember that
  • The perfume should be stored in a shaded, cool place, preferably in its original cardboard packaging.
  • After opening the bottle, you should use the perfume within a few months. If you have already opened them, but do not use them often, keep them in the fridge. In the cold, their ingredients will not change quickly, and thus - the smell.
  • Do not touch the dispenser with your body so as not to transfer bacteria from the skin to the bottle, as the composition of the fragrance may change under their influence.
  • Supplement perfumes and water with deodorants and fragrant bath cosmetics: gels, mousses and creams, as well as hair mists. It is best if they are from one fragrance line, then the fragrance stays on the skin longer.
  • Spray yourself where the heart rate is strongest, i.e. behind the ears, on the sides of the neck, between the breasts, on the inside of the wrists and at the flexion of the elbows. You can also spray the perfume in front of you and enter this fragrant mist.
